My 21st Century Classroom

My 21st classroom is focusing on a second grade class. Anything that is in my classroom is available to my students. I will not be the type of teacher that has technology in the classroom and tell my students that they are not allowed to use it. I want my class to be fun and colorful, but not too much to were it becomes distracting for my students learning. I will not have a certain color it will just represent the ocean with colorful pictures and facts. I created a sketch of how I would like my classroom to look.

I will have a theme of marine animals, the walls will be decorated with pictures and facts about the animals. There will be five groups of desks with four chairs each. The five groups will be named a certain marine animal. For example there will be a group dolphin, a group shark, and so on. The groups marine animal will hang about the desks.

I will have an interactive whiteboard on a square rug with a chair next to the board. The chair is for me to sit on and watch as my students use the IWB. I will be in charge of using my laptop to use with the IWB. Students will sit on the rug during lessons on the IWB. I will have a kidney table that will be used as a center for the students.

Teaching in a 21st century classroom can be hard. Therefore this video is able to help teachers understand how to teach more efficiently.

There is a clothes stand, a sink and a fridge next to the teacher's desk. The clothes stand is for the student's coats. The sink has soap and paper towels for students. The fridge in the classroom is for the students' lunches.

I will have two circle rugs. One will be with a TV for movies, and other TV activities. I will have a few bean bag chairs and will rotate who can sit on them. The second circle rug will be for reading and quiet time. I will have three sofas and a book stand full of educational books for my students. There will be a square rug with an easel on it. This is a quiet area where the students can paint, and sit on the floor with a book. Along the back there will be storage areas and shelves for any supplies.
I will have the quiet areas next to each other so it is easier for the students to concentrate with what they are doing. The IWB is in a corner so it is not taking up too much space. My desk would be in the front of the classroom therefore I can watch the students when they are taking tests, or doing individual work.

Overall this class taught me a lot about how to use technology correctly and what to have in my classroom that will help teach children correctly. I think a online blog to keep parents informed would be a good way to keep the parents and teachers connected.
